Best Big DIY Holiday Bows

Can you hear it playing in the background?!

“I like Big Bows and I can not lie! No other brother can deny!” Silly girl, I know but I amuse myself.

It’s just  that the Best Big DIY Holiday Bows make me smile! How about you? Are you a BIG Bow kinda gal? Well, if you’re not, I’m hoping you might be after today.

And, who ever said you had to have a wreath on your front door, anyway?big DIY christmas bow

Go for the Bow baby! That’s what I say.

Forget about your holiday wreaths of Christmas past;  dress up your house with an awesome Big Bow!

Here’s all you need to make one yourself.

Big Bow Supplies

1 Roll of Decor Mesh (I bought mine at Sam’s Club)

Floral Wire

a pair of good Scissors (I like to use my Cutco poultry scissors to cut my wire)

Now for the important part…

Take. your. time. It should take about 20 minutes tops!

Don’t get frustrated. The decor mesh can be a little tricky to get a hold on but hang in there.

To make the best BIG DIY Holiday Bows you’ve got to play with it a bit to get your barrings.

Start by unrolling the entire roll of decor mesh. Fold it in 1/2 then right at that spot – Pinch It Together & wrap a piece of  floral wire around it good and tight.

Keep folding it back and forth, pinch and wrap your wire.

As you move along, make the next one a bit wider than the one before.

Until you like the size of your Big Bow!

And, if you like, you can leave a little dangling on each side and cut it in 1/2 to make little trendlies {that’s a word, right? well, you know what I mean. ;)

That’s it. Shut the front door! And, hang your Big Bow loud and proud.

Big Bow on front door

  1. I love this idea! I feel weird for not liking wreaths, but I don’t – so this is the perfect thing for our front door. I’m going to try it this weekend.

  10. I love it! Fantastic tutorial. Funny too :-) I’m glad I’m not the only one who still loves to add fun color to their Christmas decor. Wreaths are my favorite…I may have 2 or 3 or 10…but why not add a big fat bow to one! Visiting from That DIY Party.

  11. OMG, you had me at “big Bow” lol I have feather boa wreaths that are white, but in the new/old house at the lake, we have all white on the walls! So a big red bow is gonna make it’s way to this old house!

    Thanks for the inspiration!!

  14. I think this bow is adorable so I bought 3 rolls to make 3 bows!! I just can’t get it right though. I am not a crafty person to start with. When you fold back and forth, are you taking from the end and folding up or are you gathering from the middle and folding from there? I would love any helpful advise :)

    • Hey April, the deco mesh can take a little getting used to but once you’ve done one it’s a snap. Concentrate on pinching the ribbon that gathered in the middle and use your floral wire to hold it tightly in place there. Then gather the next row (making the loops a little bit bigger than the layer before it) and pinch the gathered area in the middle and twist your floral wire there too. Just keep repeating that process until you like how BIG and awesome your bow is. Hope that helps.
