Decorating for a Merry and Bright Christmas Home

The snow was all a glistening as sugar plums danced in my head.

OK, what are sugar plums, anyway?

And, I’m a Florida gal so there will be no snow a glistening…

Palm trees or not, decorating for a Merry and Bright Christmas home is all about keeping it simple for this DIYer.

decorating for Christmas

It’s kinda of funny that it would take having a blogger Home Tour to make me slow down to actually think about that. But…

It’s true!  As I scurried from pillar to post, digging out of our red and green Christmas bins {and wishing they were clear btw so I didn’t have to take the lids on and off  58,000 times}, the decorating needs to be simple. Easy.  Something for the whole family to enjoy.

Kind of ironic considering all the hubbub around the blog world about blowing out some over-the-top Christmas Home Tour and my kidlets asking if the placement of their special ornaments would look good for a photo. hmm?! ;)

Let’s not make it complicated, girls.  Come on in and let me show you around.

Christmas snow crystals

Back to the snow all a glistening… that was the inspiration behind these little crystal baubles I strewn together using a simple jewelry wire.

No, it’s not snow or even icicles.

It reminds the hubs and I of our snowy Christmases in upstate New York. Cutting down the perfect real Christmas tree, only to see it’s permanently lopsided in the stand at home.

Crystal Snow drops

Anyway, I digress. But you can bet this Florida chic can remember how dark northeast winters can be.

Decorating for a Merry and Bright Christmas home up there required many more stands of white lights as I recall.

Christmas Breakfast room

And, that my friends is where the whole let’s keep it Merry & Bright theme if you will was born.

This is our breakfast room and it’s simple all right. Just a single wreath, a handmade pine cone garland and a bit of embellishment on the back of each chair.

I’ll share little tutorials on these simple and easy DIYs in the upcoming days.

Like how I decked out our staircase with a wrapping paper and double-sided tape! {i heart double-sided tape :)}

Style your staircase

And, here’s our family room. Nothing to complicated about it.  Other than the fact that I just decided to paint the entertainment unit on Sunday when we were in the middle of playing Christmas carols and hanging ornaments. ha! So don’t mind the inside is finished.

Notice, the girl’s snowman artwork up top. That makes me happy.

So, that’s about it for the Fresh Idea Studio ;) Christmas Home Tour.

  8. Your house looks so pretty! No one would ever know that you are in FL where it’s warm and not in a snowy, wintery area. I love how you made snow for your mirrors with crystals. That will be a nice wintery touch to leave up for January. When I saw your colorful steps, I almost squeeled. What a cute idea!

  18. Everything looks fabuloso but…I’m not convinced that making your own natural decor in every part of the house is NOT exactly “simple & easy”. ;-) Be honest, how many hours did it take including brainstorming, materials gathering, assembly, and cleanup? At any rate, keep up the good work, it’s gorgeous!

  19. What a beautiful home tour. I love all of the colors that you have chosen and that staircase – WOW! it makes me want to buy a new home just so I can do that! Hope you have a great holiday season. I’m up tomorrow – GULP…and my youngest was moving everything around in an attempt to “fix” it all for me :)
