Are you a one or two-story house kind of gal?
Me? I’m all about two!
Maybe because growing up I always lived in a one story and the thought of stairs sounded really fun. Funny, right?! But then you grow up and things change, right?! Nope! I can tell you whole heartedly I love living in a two-story house (not because the stairs are fun) because it’s better and easier IMO. A lot of people might squack about stairs, not me. It’s the best involuntary excercise I get and it keeps all our stuff corraled if you know what I mean. The only part I don’t like about having stairs is how they’re boring looking and stay the same…most of the time. Not fun at all.
So in the spirit of the holidays as I wish you a very Merry Christmas Eve I present to you our DIY Christmas Tree Staircase.ta da!
Take that boring stairs; no more bah-hum-bug!
Now this isn’t the first time I’ve dressed up our stairs for the holidays! Last year, I used wrapping paper and double sided tape.
While it was fun and festive, it didn’t hold up all that great. So this time around, I knew I wanted to go with wall paper or even contact paper with the hope it could withstand the kiddos tromping up and down.
And, have you noticed how stylin’ contact paper is these days? No seriously. It used to be so blah and now you can find pretty patterns and colors lots of different places. I love it!
I found the blue trellis patterned one I used as the background at Marshalls and the green damask for the tree at Target.
And to make it even simplier, Lowe’s Creative Ideas has a great tutorial along with a Christmas Tree Layout Guide and Star Pattern I used to eyeball how I should go about making it actually look like a Christmas Tree. It was a big help!
Do you have a holiday look on your stairs? I’d love to hear.
Merry Christmas my friends! Merry merry Christmas!
