Do you have a room you call your own?
Is it just for you?
No one else?
DIY Home Office Reveal
It has a place for everything and everything’s in its…
not quite. But I’m happy, anyway.
A perfectly imperfect DIY project.
When we built this house I knew I would find a way to carve out a space of my own (and I’m talking other than the laundry room, my friends).
The one bedroom downstairs was definitely calling my name!
It had to be a flexible space, though.
And, by flexible I mean super comfortable for guests to stay at a moment’s notice. {We live in Florida after all. It happens.}
And, that is how I came to design the desk to also be the bed.
What?
Yes, the desk is the bed and the bed is the desk.
It folds right down to a queen sized bed supported by the desk’s floating shelves. Comfortable to sleep on is not what you’re imagining, right now, is it?
Oh but it is. I’ve been told by our friends and family who have stayed over it’s quite love-ly. And the fact I’ve yet to paint the base (aka the shelves) doesn’t seem to both anyone either.
Back to the reveal part.
I think it the personal touches like hanging art on the walls that’s fun and functional that makes this my happy place.
Not to mention, it’s easy for me to feel motivated and stay endlessly inspired.
Not to mention staying organized and being creative whenever the mood strikes.
But … Above all, my happy place keeps me focused on making time for the ones I love the very most in this world.
Even, when they take selfies with my camera on its tripod…and all they really want is a ride to a friend’s Great Gatsby party.
Sure, no problem sweetie, I’d love to! Can I come… anything Great Gatsby sounds fun!
Here’s to you finding your happy place and a room or corner in your home to call your own.
That’s genius Therese! Love that your desk comes down to a bed.
Wow! You’re making me blush Jennifer! 😉

How lovely. I have a space I could claim as my own, but I haven’t quite done it yet. I’m inspired after seeing your space.
Aww, thank you Sharon! I love having Mrs. Hines in the house!
xx
The bed is a winner! So smart to build shelves in the base. Can’t wait to see more pics of the card catalog!
Did you use plans to make the desk/bed ?
Awesome craft/guest room!!! Since my husband’s parents passed away, we never use the guest room. My parents live less than a 10 minute drive! maybe I need to look into a conversion!!! Love your room! ~Christy
Love this room! You did a tremendous job and now you have the awesomest place to work! Would love for you to share at Fridays Unfolded!

Thank you Nancy! I’ll have to check that out.
I LOVE it! I have been thinking one day I want to move into a “tiny home” and I keep thinking a pull down bed would save so much space. This is perfect! Do you have any photos of it with the bed pulled down? For curiosity sake. Thanks!
Oh! And that card catalog file? Swoon!
That is great! I’ve seen ads to make a murphy bed but honestly they looked complicated and expensive. It’s good to see yours. It doesn’t look scary, your desk and shelves I can imagine as a support for a mattress. Thanks. I came over from Not Just a housewife.

These pieces really set a standard in the inrtdusy.
I agree on the quality of the 2005 vintage. Weve been tasting with a small group of wine-loving friends through lower-cost wines (Gloria, Citran, La Tour Carnet, DAngludet, De Fieuzal and La Tour Figeac). All under $35 at futures. And all scoring over 90 now, with wonderful styles and years of pleasure ahead. And several in the next price range under $60 at futures (Batailley, Bechevelle, Clerc Milon, Giscours, Prieure-Lichine and Du Tertre) are even better more refined and balanced. Our best value pick of all of these: the La Tour Carnet.
Wow!!! An audition for the Nutcracker!!! How wonderful! I think it’s wonderful that you’ve even been picked for an audition! I’m so proud of you and will be praying for you, for sure!!As far as the sprinkler goes, I agree with Mom and Dad. I know it seems hot to you (your weather must be a lot nicer than ours is!!), it’s still not warm enough yet to be out in the sprinkler. Summer will come soon, honey, you’ll see… I love you – it’s good to see you posting!!Gram
