DIY Decoupage and Lilly Pulitzer Inspired Christmas Ornaments

Oh it’s true!

I’m a Mod Podge Decoupaging virgin.

No experience whatsoever. {Don’t even remember playing around with it as a kid in art class at school.} gasp How is it possible I’ve made it to middle age the prime of my life ;) without ever touching the stuff?!

I have no idea!

But I do know I love, love, love it now; and today I can’t wait to share my DIY Decoupage and Lilly Pulitzer Inspired Christmas Ornaments with you! Plus I have an exciting $500 Black Friday Shopping Spree Giveaway for you so hold on to your hats! Here we go…DIY Lilly Inspired Christmas Ornaments

Well, poodles! Let me back up a sec…

you know I love a good Lilly DIY, am I right?

And, when our youngest daughter had her Parisian Pool Party  back in August one of the sweetest birthday gifts she received was a Lilly Pulitzer jewelry box. Lilly Pulitzer Jewelry Box

And, it came beautifully wrapped in matching Lilly paper. Hello?! Of course, I had to save the gift wrapping. That was a no-brainer. But in my craft room it sat. Alone and discarded.

Until last week, when I started thinking about what kind of Christmas decorating I had in mind for this year.

And, it hit me!  “What about a Lilly Christmas tree for the girl’s bedroom?!”  Cute idea!  Right?!

So, I took a gander at their Christmas baubles. Lilly Pulitzer Christmas Ornaments

Lovely! But, glass?  That would not be good on a kid’s Christmas tree and what?! 48 bucks!! Um, I love you Lilly but sorry girl that’s not going to work out for us.

But, hey…

Thanks for reminding me we had that awesome gift wrap calling my name!

And, that my friends is how the need to finally try Mod Podge arose.

Just goes to show inspiration can strike. Anywhere. mod podge ish christmas ornaments supplies needed

So, I picked up a 12-pack  {haha! gotcha} – a sleeve of 12 plastic ornaments at the Dollar Tree and proceeded to hop on Pinterest to find the best way to make my own DIY Decoupage. make your own decoupage

It’s really so incredibly simple. {Why or why did I wait this long to discover mod podge-ing ?;)}

I used:

 2 – 4 oz bottles of Elmer’s Multi-Purpose Glue

4 oz of warm tap water

1 old pickle jar

Shake that all together and you’re set.

{Seriously, I feel like I just got a new toy at Christmas! I love this stuff and can’t wait to play, play play with my DIY deco-glue some more. So stay tuned on that.}

And, you pretty much know how it goes from here. Because I’m not kidding myself, I know I’m probably the last person in the world to try this. But, just make sure to remove the top of the ornament before you get your hands all icky and sticky.

Oh, and I slathered tiny bits of the Lilly gift wrap, front and back, and just smoothed in all over the little plastic ornaments. I can tell you it’s pretty messy. So I worked with mine over a foil lined cookie sheet. {And, there was no way I was washing my hands to take pics at that point. I was having way too much fun playing with my new toy. ;) After they dried overnight, I sprayed them with Gold Rustoleum Glitterrustoleum glitter spray

I’m really happy with how they turned out! What do you think? A start to Palm Beach Preppy Girl Christmas Tree or what?

I even think they’d make a cute gifty-gift!

I’m definitely keeping them for the girl’s Christmas tree this year.
