Here I go, wish me luck.
My first furniture reveal: the Before and After of a drab to fab French Provincial dresser. In my post First Impressions – Making a Statement in your Foyer I mentioned how I’d painted up the Handsome Boy Dresser for my hubby’s bday.
I think Before and Afters are fun! Don’t you? Whether it’s in life or a DIY project, it can be down right exciting when two photos simply capture the magic from start to finish. We’re talking instant gratification without the guilt, reward without the work. Sound too good to be true? You decide.
Here’s the Ugly Duckling BEFORE…
and, the Handsome Boy AFTER.
Wham! There ya go. Nice and easy, right? Like dessert with no calories.
But, let me back up a bit…I should probably just put it out there – most of the pieces I find when “treasure hunting” are not all bright and shiny. They’re usually pretty battered, bruised and all kinds of dirty. They’ve seen a better day and that was definitely the case for this dresser that probably had its heyday back in 1974.
It’s the “potential for pretty”. I look for it in the lines and legs (legs are always key for me) and the general integrity or sturdiness of the furniture. Some aren’t too bad, just dingy and tired, missing something, past their prime if you know what I mean.
In the case of this ugly duckling I immediately saw lots of potential but my husband couldn’t (and this was supposed to be for him after all). I showed him some furniture inspiration from Pinterest.
I’m guessing it must have been those dashing stripes on the piece from the talented Liz Marie and the heavenly grey blue the extraordinary CentsationalGirl used that helped him describe to me exactly what he’d like. drum roll please
“A nice blue with stripes on top”; gotta love a man of few words. And, that’s where the inspiration for the Handsome Boy Dresser came from and this is where he is now.
In our foyer no less.
Honey, I promise your next dresser you can actually use to put your socks in. This was just the perfect spot 🙂
So, what do you think? Are Before and Afters fun or what? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers to you and yours,
