Happy furniture makeover day friends! Today I’d like to show you a little trick I use to make any piece, new or old, updated fast. It’s a super simple, slam-bam-thank-you-ma’am technique that’s especially handy in making a basic item instantly cool and custom.
How To make a new Industrial barstool look Vintage
Remember these 2 words: paint & sandpaper.
Now image a piece of furniture from a thrift store or even from a big box store like the barstools I bought when we built our house. Since day one, I’ve loved our Restoration-look alike stools (which are similiar to this affilate link stool). And, I actually have 2 friends who bought the exact same cool stools after seeing them in my kitchen which brings me to my go-to-update trick.
OK, do you remember those 2 words? Good.
Paint and Sandpaper
And, whether your furniture isn’t doing it for you anymore or it’s looking too much like everyone else’s now…
A little paint on a dry brush and a bit of distressing with sandpaper will get you a fresh vintage look quick.
And, a simple touch like hand-painting a number or even stenciling a pattern can make it even personalized and all yours.
For my industrial barstool project, I simply dry brushed some AS Old Orche and used a basic white I had in my stash for the free hand numbers. Finishing touch? a 400 grit sanding block to distress it a tad.
Now that’s more like it!
What do you think? Do you have a piece you’re thinking about updating? Are you into a distressed or vintage look?I’d love to hear.
