I’m not proud to admit it but for the longest time I couldn’t understand why Thanksgiving was (and is) my mother’s favorite holiday. My mom has always counted the days (with great anticipation) to the last Thursday in November like it was the best thing ever. Why did mom love Thanksgiving more than Christmas and her own birthday, combined?! I questioned her every single year; she couldn’t possibly enjoy slaving in the kitchen for days on end to prepare a massive meal for our family and friends just to have them gobble it up in record time. Of course, Mom would just smile at my inquisition and ask me to set the table. That makes me the designated ‘table setter’.
So in preparation for our great nation’s Day of Thanks, I’ve joined 19 talented blog friends to bring you some simple ideas for a beautiful Thanksgiving table. I hope you find inspiration to create something special for your family’s table as you take time together to count your many blessings this Thanksgiving. If there’s one thing mom taught me it’s to keep it simple.
Don’t worry about using only the finest china and crystal on your Thanksgiving table.
Feel free to Mix and Match.
I stuck several felt dots to the bottom of a long slender ceramic tile (the kind that has a wood grain look to it) to create as base for several of my favorite pillar candles. Various sizes of candles works well.
Of course you could use a table cloth but I was going for more of a casual look and wanted another pop of color so I went with bamboo place mats in warm auburn .
For more texture and color layer in a few fall leaves and some of your favorite seasonal fruit. To keep your fruit on display looking it’s best, you probably want to check out how I clean & preserve produce the natural way.
Simple finishing touches like raffia tied around cloth napkins and personalized place cards and you’re all set. It’s that easy.
