(scroll down to the bottom of this post to enter)
Truth be told, when I agreed to this project I had no idea how I was going to pull it off!
I don’t sew. 🙁 I’ve never made a pillow cover or anything else that involves using a sewing machine! Ever.
yikes, what had I gotten myself into? (insert mild freak out moment)
But you know what? Just because I’m a non-sew-er doesn’t mean I don’t Love Pillows. Pretty Pillows. You with me all my sewing-machine-challenged friends?! Here we go.
How to make a Super Easy No Sew Pillow Cover in 1 Hour or Less
if I can do this, you can too!
Seriously it was SUPER EASY! and uber-fast too (bonus!) So quick in fact I made not 1 pillow cover but 2. ha!
Let me show you my trick to making a pillow cover for the next to you have an hour to spare.
Here’s what I used:
Start by placing your pillow form on top of the 2 fabrics and cut.
Allow approximately 3 inches beyond your pillow on all sides for both fabrics. This will leave room a clean, crisp finished edge.
Notice there was no tape measure on my list? Don’t worry. Guesstimating works just fine for this no-sew project.
Cut 1 of the 2 pieces of fabric you just cut in 1/2.
This will be the side you slide your pillow into when you’re all done. I believe it’s called envelope style.
Using a good, hot iron place solid strips of Super Strength no sew tape under previously ironed creases on all sides.
Once you’re done with that carefully line up your 2 envelope pieces to overlap on top on the 1 solid piece.
Make sure all 3 pieces are face out and aligned over your 1 solid piece. I think this little peek of the contrasting fabric along the edges gave the pillow a more finished, custom look. Minus having to get into attaching fancy trim. Even though I do love actual decorative trim.
Hang in there! You’re almost done.
I was at 30 minutes and counting at this point. Now…
Here’s my trick!
After you iron the Super Strength Stitchery Witchery along the perimeter of your pillow cover (everywhere except for envelope slip in the middle) whip out your fabric glue.
Squeeze a thin line of fabric glue right where you just ironed your tape.
Smoothing the fabric glue out in between the pieces along the perimeter with your fingers.
Wash your hands. (Mine were a sticky mess!!)
Then take your still warm iron and press all along the pillow cover’s edge. This works like magic to seal in the no sew tape!
It could be overkill. But remember, I’m a first-time pillow maker here and I wanted to be sure it looked good! And… I wanted to make sure it doesn’t pull apart when my kidlets get a hold of them.
OK that’s it! I
let my cover (s) sit for about 15 minutes before and then I slipped my pillow form inside.
easy peasy. And done in less than an hour!
I’m thinking of all the pretty possibilities for the upcoming holidays! Maybe something to go with my DIY Christmas Tree card holder.
What do you think? Are you up for switching up your pillows?
